No just-after-midnight post here, we had some excitement!
At about 11:00pm, just as we were all getting ready to play a couple games and then watch the ball drop, the power went out for the whole “Neck” or peninsula where we live.
It was very exciting. We are very grateful that my dad gave the girls flashlights, and that B got a headlamp from his boss! It was thanks to the headlamp that I was able to read two chapters of The Ruby Kingdom to the girls. After that, they fell asleep. I guess laying down in the dark is pretty conducive to sleep.
B and I spent the time laughing about the idea of having a New Years party with no power. The neighbors shot off fireworks, but it was well before midnight. I’m guessing that the parties broke up early!
At 12:20am, the lights went back on. I’m taking this as a sign – This New Year is going to be brighter! The darkness of the past year(s) is past. We need to work at it, but this year will bring light into our lives.
Welcome 2008!
Boy that sounds lovely. I remember when I was a kid that power outages were our favorites – big Monopoly and Scrabble games by candle light. There’s something enchanting about it for a family – a great adventure. I agree that it’s a beautiful way to start the year. May it be a happy one.
