I did a PayPerPost entry about Pingo calling cards at one point, and as a result I ended up with one for free. This post is NOT sponsored, though I would receive a bit of income if people click the links. After trying out Pingo, there is very little I dislike. In fact, I wish my grandmothers would accept the 800 number from me, so they could call me for cheap.

Why would you want a calling card if you already have a cell phone? Well, do you have a kid going to college? Family in another country? Want cheap long distance calls? Going on vacation to somewhere with bad cell phone reception? All good reasons. I was able to use the Pingo calling card to call a couple friends in Canada for less than 2c/minute. And I talked to my friend in Ireland for 2c/minute.

What I really like about the Pingo calling card program is that they let you program in a phone number you are calling from. If you are calling from that phone number, all you have to do is call the Pingo access number, and you’re in – no worries about remembering a long PIN. If you’re on vacation somewhere with a house phone, you can just add that number to your list of numbers while you’re there (and remove it when you’re done). As a bonus, your calling card won’t expire any time soon, so if you want to take advantage of one of the deals listed below, but you aren’t going to need it for a few months – go for it! Your minutes will wait for you.

My disappointment with Pingo was not having an actual, laminated card to keep in my wallet. There are printouts you can use for access numbers, etc, but I still like having that laminated card, darnit! Ah well. For phone rates this cheap, I can deal.
