My family has been enjoying the TV shows available on iTunes for a long time now, and so we were intrigued to hear about Amazon Unbox and the new option of watching movies online from Netflix.com.
However, when I looked at the system requirements for both, they both require a Windows PC. I use a MacBook, so neither program was available to me.
I’m very disappointed in both Netflix.com and Amazon Unbox. Mac users and Linux users are a growing percentage of the computer using market, and many college kids with MacBooks would love to be watching a movie right away - immediate gratification!
Many, many websites offer free viewing of their TV shows, so between those and iTunes, I’ll be OK waiting until my next DVD comes from Netflix.com or the next time I go to the library and pick up a DVD. I’m still disappointed, though - it appears that there are a lot of movies and TV shows available for immediate viewing, and I’d like to enjoy them. I hope that both Netflix.com
and Amazon Unbox consider offering support for Mac and Linux users.
Spotlight reviews gives this 2 spotlights out of 5 - I’m impressed with the diversity of programming available, but cannot attest to the quality because of the Windows-only viewing limitations.
