When I was in high school, I asked my parents if they had started a college fund for me when I was born. I had heard of these from my (well-off) friends. My parents laughed. Hard. Now that I’m a parent, I know why they were laughing – finding money to parent little kids is a challenge, much less saving for college at the same time!

I have several friends whose kids start college in the fall. They are all hunting for scholarships, trying to find a way to afford private college tuitions. I know that in 9 short years we’ll be in their place, too, so I’m trying to find out more about scholarships now.  After browsing their website, I  hope that Scholarships.com is still around in 9 years. Scholarships.com is a free site to help parents, kids, and educators as they search through the maze of scholarship opportunities.

If you look at all of their resources, you can see how Scholarships.com breaks down the scholarship search, offering help every step of the way. Are you looking for Pell grants? Or are you looking for a scholarship that is focused on a particular country or ethnicity? (Don’t overlook those – my brother got a scholarship because he spoke Estonian…)

Best of luck to all of you searching for scholarships this year – I hope this helps you find something wonderful! Cross your fingers for us in 9 years, OK?
